Carlito
A downloadable game for Windows
Carlito is a nostalgic 3D platformer by Aurélien Lachat (me) & Julien Dufresne for a school project, inspired by great games like Rayman, Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, Psychonauts...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
What I did for this project :
- Programming -> camera, character controls, save system, dialog system, rendering, optimization, localization, IA, UI, sound... and everything else that needed to be coded.
- Game Design
- Level Design
- Sound Design
- 3D animations for characters
- Assets integration...
I teamed up with Julien Dufresne who worked on the visual aspect, such as the character design, 3D modeling / skinning / rigging, UI / 2D design, texturing, lightning, etc.
The wonderful music was made by Fabien Merten.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to the volonteers who helped us in our journey:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
You can play Carlito with a gamepad controller or your keyboard/mouse (Windows only).
The game is playable in 4 languages: French, English, Spanish and German.

We're very proud to launch this project that took us so long to get right. And hey, we've got the jury's congratulations!
We aim to put the game on Steam if we earn enough tips, so feel free to contribute.
Have fun playing Carlito!

I appreciate I’m a bit late to the party but Carlito is a seriously good 3D platformer and I sincerely hope, for all of our sakes, the devs are still working on it!
I had an absolute blast playing it. As an avid 3D platformer player - I’ve played everything from the well known franchises to the obscure hidden gems. Carlito nails just about everything a 3D platformer has to nail:
1) Brilliant snappy movement and jumping. The base moveset is slick and clean and really gives you great mobility. There’s a shadow for jump aiming. A SICK wall grab and I LOVE the sort of mini run you do up a wall when you hit it, super super nice. A great spin (Crash esque), double jump, grapple hook and dive - all are seamless and perfect feeling. The unlock able moves are also awesome - really loved the sprint and the feeling of it and also the dive that could be interrupted with a 3rd jump. Just really really solid movement. Some of the best I’ve seen, really.
2) Cute NPCs - though there’s not many of them and this is just the 1 level - they are all super cool. I really liked the Sensei grandpa and the writing and personality’s shone through. Would really love to see their story fleshed out and more characters added. The enemy designs were also really nice. Really liked the Ninja Owls that sort of run like Samurais!
3) Brilliant colour palette and level design. A lovely colourful beach/island vibe with blocky designs. Huts, waterfalls and rivers - really reminiscent of the N64/PSX kind of adventure games. All the platforms felt perfectly placed which lends very well to parkouring around the island. You can get in a great rhythm.
4) And then tons of extras. I absolutely loved the hidden cheat codes - such a throwback to the early platformers. I digger the Rayman inspired outfit with floating limbs - very cool stuff. I also digged little features like the water splashing the camera when you when underwater. Really neat stuff that shows a hell of a lot of passion and charm.
Geniunely one of my fondest experiences on Itch and just an amazingly solid concept for the genre. I really hope you are proud of this and are cooking something excellent up for us all!
Thanks Aurelien and team!
Heard a freind talk about playing this game and decited to check it out. SOOO good, I love it. The music, the art, the charm, the controls the charecters the objectives. Once I got the sprint ability I found myself sprinting and jumping around just moving. Great cheat codes with my favorate BIG HEAD. Also love the way its set up, talking to the diffrent charecters, doing each of there objectives, all at the same, in the same world. It was SOOO cool. I would TOTALY play more if more was ever to come.
Thank you so much! We're really happy you enjoyed our game, it's heartwarming to read that!
What amazing game ! And the music is very fun ! Congratulations ! ;)
Loved every second of this game just wish there was more. Movement feels amazing and was an overall fun game
Thank you so much for your feedback!
Hey, just wanted to let you know that as a fan of 3D platformers, I've been looking forward to this for a while now.
Unfortunately the game is totally broken, at least for me. Tried the game with a gamepad but most of the buttons didn't do anything. The cursor went randomly up and down the main menu, and when I pressed right on the right analog stick, it went into the options menu for some reason. I set the controller down without pressing any buttons and the game randomly started. I tried to move in game, but the left analog stick controlled both the character and the camera, making it impossible to see what was going on. And even still, none of the other buttons did anything.
I disconnected my controller and tried to use mouse and keyboard, but again, nothing happened. Then I tried to rebind controls, but for some reason it wouldn't let me.
The game is literally unplayable.
Hi! Sorry to hear that, it's very curious since nobody had this problem before... Are you playing on a regular Windows computer? What controller are you using?
I hope we'll find a solution! 🙂
